Karan Johar has always focussed on larger than life, family dramatisation especially when it comes to his big budget films. However, his latest film “Kapoor and Sons” stands unique in imitation and storyline.
Harsh Kapoor(Rajat) and Sunita Kapoor(Ratna Pathak) have two sons, Arjun(Sidharth Malhotra) and Rahul(Fawad Khan), who have landed at their home after a long period of time. Tia(Aliya Bhatt) seems to be an add-on in the film, dating both the guys.
While grandfather’s role played by Rishi Kapoor completes this unconventional but realistic depiction. The question that leaves the audience to ask for what next, does the dream desire posed by the grandfather Rishi Kapoor, as we saw in the official trailer of the film, “Marne se pehle.. mere parivaar ke sath .. ek family photo ho..jispar likha ho..Kapoor and Sons.. since 1922”, comes true?
This is a family that deals with painful stories, heart rending revelations and unimaginable truths, unveiling step-by-step. Kapoors do shout, yell and spat without drooling over each other. The two young sons have a great deal of bitterness and so it exists amongst the older couple as well.
One one hand Rahul, the older son in the family is usually called hot, talented and an eligible bachelor whereas Arjun seems to be a little weak and looser kinda guy, always proving himself. Tia is getting over a tragic incident in her life but is happier and bubbly.
The location leaves the audience awestruck and uplifts the charm of the film. Overall, “Kapoor and Sons” is a good watch and is surely a better competition to this year’s latest Biopic “Neerja”.
